Kyle Nord’s Pompeii Adventure

Hi! My name is Kyle Nord and I am a senior Classical Studies and Anthropology major at UNH. This summer I have been working directly with Dr. Van der Graaff on an excavation at the Oplontis Villa near Pompeii. This facility was a wine distribution center, where wine was transferred into freshly cleaned amphora and sent out to be placed on shipping vessels and set out across the Mediterranean. This site was buried during the same eruption of Vesuvius that buried the nearby cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 CE. The Classics and Anthropology Programs at UNH have provided me with some amazing experiences that are preparing me to go further into the world of academia!
